Friday Letter

Friday Letter

February 10, 2017

Dear Families,

Our week has gone by fast.  We have worked so hard this week.  In reading, they have started reading in partnerships with a focus on discussing literary language.  During readers workshop the children have been reading up a storm and jotting down playful language they read in the books and discussing it with their partners as well as in whole group.  They have jotted down this playful language on sticky notes.  Here are some examples: Laughing until my sides split, running water, the roar of the crowd, and we should live in the present. 2nd grade readers are understanding how authors keep our attention while they are reading longer and stronger.

In math we continue our Measuring unit. This week we continued our exploration of inches into yards.  We noticed there are 24 inches in 2 feet and 36 inches or 3 feet in one yard.  They worked in pairs to measure in yards.

In writing, we continued to write opinion papers. They have been including reasons and examples in their opinion papers.  This week we focused on if they had $100 dollars, what would they spend it on and reasons and examples as to why they would spend their money on certain things.

Our field trip to the Flynn Theater is on Monday, February 13th.  We are leaving school at 8:45.

If your child is making Valentine cards, please remember to make a card for each child in the classroom.  I sent home a class list of names 2 weeks ago.

Have an awesome weekend and stay warmJ
